He started playing cricket at the age of eleven during his childhood, practicing at Gandhibagh Academy in Meerut under the guidance of his maternal uncle Tankeeb Akhtar. During a Ranji Trophy match in 2011 between Uttar Pradesh and Saurashtra, Rizvi caught the eye of Uttar Pradesh captain Suresh Raina with his fielding skills, despite being just eight years old. Raina recognized Rizvi’s talent and gifted him his sunglasses. Rizvi’s maternal uncle Tankeeb Akhtar was the one who motivated him to pursue cricket seriously, even though he faced criticism from Sameer’s father for diverting his focus from studies.
