Romario Shepherd, born on 26th November 1994 in Georgetown, Guyana, is a professional cricketer representing the West Indies national team and Lucknow Super Giants in the Indian Premier League. Known for his tall and athletic build, he excels as a fast bowler and a dependable lower-order batsman, making him a rising star in West Indies cricket. Starting his career in age-group cricket for Guyana, Shepherd’s consistent performances earned him a spot in the Nagico Super50 tournament in 2016, where he quickly made a name for himself. Notably, he was named the Man of the Match in his debut game after taking 3 wickets for 37 runs against Leeward Islands. Subsequently, he debuted in first-class cricket the following year and maintained his impressive form.
After rising through the ranks, he earned a spot in the national team for the ODI series against Afghanistan in 2019. He performed well in his debut, taking two wickets in a win against Afghanistan. Shepherd, a right-arm fast bowler, debuted for Guyana in List A cricket in January 2016, playing against the Leeward Islands in the 2015–16 Regional Super50. He opened the bowling alongside Steven Jacobs, claiming figures of 3/37 from 10 overs in his debut, which included the first two wickets and earned him the man of the match award. His first-class debut for Guyana was in the 2016–17 Regional Four Day Competition on 10 March 2017. He also made his Twenty20 debut for Guyana Amazon Warriors on 5 September 2018. Shepherd was selected in the Guyana Amazon Warriors squad for the 2020 Caribbean Premier League in July 2020. He was later signed by Karachi Kings in December 2021 after the players’ draft for the 2022 Pakistan Super League. In February 2022, Sunrisers Hyderabad acquired him in the auction for the 2022 Indian Premier League tournament.
International career
Shepherd was selected for the West Indies ODI squad in October 2019 to play against Afghanistan. His ODI debut for the West Indies was on November 6, 2019, against Afghanistan. In January 2020, he was chosen for the West Indies T20I squad for the series against Ireland. He made his T20I debut for the West Indies on January 18, 2020, against Ireland. In November 2023, he was included in the West Indies ODI squad for a 3-match series against England. In the first ODI, he scored 48 runs from 28 balls and took 2 wickets for 77 runs.
