Prince Andrew Biography: Andrew Albert Christian Edward; born 19 February 1960, is a member of the British royal family. He is the third child and second son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, and the younger brother of King Charles III. Andrew was originally second in the line of succession to the British throne but is now eighth, being the first in line who is not a direct descendant of the reigning monarch. Andrew served in the Royal Navy as a helicopter pilot and instructor and commanded a warship. During the Falklands War, he undertook various missions, including anti-surface warfare, casualty evacuations, and Exocet missile decoy operations. In 1986, he married Sarah Ferguson and was granted the title Duke of York. The couple has two daughters: Princess Beatrice and Princess Eugenie. Their marriage, separation in 1992, and divorce in 1996 received significant media attention. As Duke of York, Andrew carried out official duties on behalf of his mother and served as the UK’s Special Representative for International Trade and Investment for ten years until July 2011.

Early Life
Andrew was born on 19 February 1960 in the Belgian Suite of Buckingham Palace at 3:30 p.m. He was the third child and second son of Queen Elizabeth II and Prince Philip, being the first child born to a reigning British monarch since Princess Beatrice in 1857. Like his siblings—Charles, Anne, and Edward—Andrew was cared for by a governess who managed his early education at Buckingham Palace.
He attended Heatherdown School near Ascot in Berkshire before entering Gordonstoun in northern Scotland in September 1973, a school previously attended by his father and older brother. Known for his humor, he earned the nickname “the Sniggerer” from his classmates due to his penchant for off-color jokes. Andrew spent six months from January to June 1977 on an exchange program at Lakefield College School in Canada. He left Gordonstoun in July 1979 with A-levels in English, history, and economics.
