He played cricket for Punjab’s under-16 and under-19 teams from 2015 to 2018. He scored 529 runs in the 2017–18 season. After that, he joined India’s under-19 cricket team and debuted against Sri Lanka on 17 July 2018. In this match, he scored 82 runs. Additionally, he became the third cricketer from Ludhiana to represent India at any level. In August 2018, he was chosen for India’s squad for the ACC Under-19 Asia Cup in 2016.
During the semi-final of the Inter-District U-23 Cricket Championship in April 2022, he scored 578 runs in a single innings, breaking Brian Lara’s record for the highest score in a four-day match. Additionally, he achieved the fastest milestones of reaching 200, 300, 400, and 500 runs in any officially recognized level of cricket and was recognized by Junior Chamber International for his outstanding performance.
Domestic career
In December 2020, Wadhera played cricket for Punjab. In December 2022, Mumbai Indians bought him for ₹20 lakh. He was the third player from Ludhiana in the IPL. In January 2023, he played for Punjab in a tournament. On 3 January 2023, he played his first match against Gujarat. He scored 123 runs in his debut game, leading Punjab to victory. Just two games later, he scored 214 runs versus Madhya Pradesh and won an award. By the end of his first season, he made 376 runs in seven matches.
He played his first short cricket match for Mumbai Indians on 2 April 2023, against Royal Challengers Bangalore. He did well in the first game, scoring 21 runs off 13 balls with two sixes. On 6 May 2023, he achieved his first fifty in IPL against Chennai Super Kings. Throughout that IPL season, he made 241 runs from 14 innings. In June 2023, Jayant Yadav replaced him to play for North Zone in the Duleep Trophy. He had his one-day debut for Punjab on 23 November 2023, against Baroda in the Vijay Hazare Trophy of 2023–24.
