Nancy Mace Early Life

Mace was born at Fort Liberty, North Carolina, to James Emory Mace, a U.S. Army officer, and Anne Mace, a schoolteacher. In 1999, she became the first woman to graduate from The Citadel’s Corps of Cadets, earning a degree in business administration. She later authored In the Company of Men: A Woman at The Citadel (2001), detailing her experience. Mace went on to earn a master’s degree in journalism and mass communication from the University of Georgia’s Henry W. Grady College of Journalism and Mass Communication. In 2008, she founded a public relations and consulting firm called The Mace Group. Mace also co-owned the South Carolina political news website FITS News, which she worked with from 2007 until she sold her stake in 2013.
