Early Life and Career
Munchetty grew up in Streatham, South London. Her mother, Muthu, hails from Tamil Nadu, India, while her father is from Mauritius. They met while studying in Wales—her mother pursuing a dentistry degree and her father training to be a nurse. They married in London in 1974, keeping their union a secret from their families. Naga has one sister, born in 1976. She attended Graveney School in Tooting and went on to study English Literature and Language at the University of Leeds, graduating in 1997. Her journalism career began at the London Evening Standard, where she worked on the City Pages, and she later contributed to the Business Section of The Observer.
How much does Naga Munchetty earn for BBC Breakfast?
Naga Munchetty is among the top earners for BBC Breakfast, as revealed in the latest salary report for 2021-2022. In July 2022, it was reported that half of the BBC’s 74 highest-paid on-screen personalities received pay raises, with Naga receiving a remarkable £110,000 increase. Her total salary now ranges between £365,000 and £369,999, which includes her work on BBC Breakfast, Panorama, and her Radio 5 Live program. While this pay rise is significant, she still doesn’t hold the title of the highest earner at the BBC; that distinction belongs to Gary Lineker, who earns over £1 million annually. BBC Radio 2’s Zoe Ball is the second-highest earner, with a salary between £980,000 and £984,999.
