Early Life
Morris was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and grew up with four brothers, including his twin, Marcus. Highly regarded as a recruit, Morris was ranked as a four-star prospect by Rivals.com, listed as the No. 17 power forward and the No. 49 overall player in the 2008 class.
College Career
Morris attended the University of Kansas, majoring in American Studies. As a junior in 2011, he earned second-team All-Big 12 honors and was named to the Fifth Team All-America by Fox Sports. After his junior season, both he and his twin brother Marcus decided to enter the 2011 NBA Draft and signed with an agent.

Morris was drafted by the Phoenix Suns as the 13th overall pick in the 2011 NBA Draft. His twin brother, Marcus, was drafted shortly after by the Houston Rockets. Morris made his first professional double-double on January 8, 2012, with 13 points and 10 rebounds in a 109–93 win over the Milwaukee Bucks. He also had his first NBA start on January 18, 2012, against the New York Knicks, although he played just five minutes due to a stomach virus, scoring three points and recording two steals. Morris was named to the 2012 Rising Stars Challenge, becoming the first Suns player since Amar’e Stoudemire to be selected. He played for Team Shaq, contributing 12 points and six rebounds. On March 25, he scored a career-high 22 points in a 108–83 victory over the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Markieff Morris, who is seven minutes older than his identical twin brother, Marcus Morris Sr., is a fan of the Dallas Cowboys, while Marcus supports the Philadelphia Eagles. Markieff’s nickname is “Keef.” In January 2015, Markieff and Marcus Morris were involved in a legal case related to an aggravated assault. The incident occurred outside the Nina Mason Pulliam Recreation Center in Phoenix, Arizona, where the twins, along with former Baltimore Ravens safety Gerald Bowman, allegedly assaulted a 36-year-old man named Eric Hood.
Hood had mentored the Morris twins from high school through college. The altercation stemmed from Hood allegedly sending an inappropriate text message to their mother. The legal proceedings began in the summer of 2015, and the trial concluded on October 2, 2017. The Morris twins and Gerald Bowman were found not guilty, while two other individuals involved in the assault, Julius Kane and Christopher Melendez Jr., admitted their guilt in September 2017.
