Early Life and Education
Eydelshteyn was born in Nizhny Novgorod, Russia, on February 18, 2002. He has a younger brother, Matvey Eydelshteyn (English: Matthew Eidelstein), and is of Jewish descent. His mother, Olesya Valeryevna Eydelshteyn, works as a stage speech teacher at the Nizhny Novgorod Theater School named after Yevgeny Yevstigneyev. It was at this school that a young Eydelshteyn often skipped classes.
In 2018, he participated in the regional selection of the “Living Classics” competition for young readers and advanced to the all-Russian final, held in Artek. There, he met Taras Belousov, the dean of the acting department at the Russian Institute of Theater Arts, who encouraged him to complete his schooling and attend a theater university. Eydelshteyn followed this advice, graduating from his mother’s school in 2019 and enrolling in the Moscow Art Theater School-Studio, where he graduated in 2023.
Career
Eydelshteyn gained widespread attention for his lead role in the drama The Land of Sasha, which premiered at the 72nd Berlin International Film Festival in February 2022. His performance earned him comparisons to the actor Timothée Chalamet, with some journalists dubbing him the “Russian Timothée Chalamet.” He is also widely recognized for his role in the Palme d’Or-winning American film Anora (2024) directed by Sean Baker. In December 2024, Eydelshteyn was cast in the second season of the Amazon Prime Video American spy TV series Mr. & Mrs. Smith.
