Khamzat Chimaev Early Life
Chimaev was born into a Chechen family in the village of Gvardeyskoye, which was part of the Chechen Republic of Ichkeria at the time but is now within Russia’s Chechnya. He began wrestling at the age of five and reportedly earned a bronze medal at the junior level of the Russian National Championships. In 2013, at the age of 18, he emigrated to Sweden with his mother to join his older brother. Despite residing in Sweden for many years, Khamzat has retained his Russian citizenship and has not acquired Swedish citizenship. In 2023, he relocated to the UAE.
