High School Career

Williams attended University High School in Waco, Texas, where he joined the varsity basketball team as a junior under coach Rodney Smith. In his senior year, he averaged 14.6 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 2.1 steals per game. He was named District 8-4A Defensive Player of the Year and led his team to a 28–5 record. Despite his strong performance, he received no Division I scholarship offers, which he attributes to only playing one season of AAU basketball.

College Career

Williams began his college journey at New Mexico Junior College, where he averaged 10.1 points and 6.9 rebounds per game as a freshman. He then transferred to TCU, which had finished winless in conference play the season prior to his arrival. As a sophomore, he contributed 8.6 points and 6.7 rebounds per game on a much-improved 18–15 team. Unfortunately, he missed the entire 2015–16 season due to a knee injury that required surgery—an experience he later described as one of the most difficult of his career, especially as TCU managed just 12 wins that year.

Returning stronger as a redshirt junior, Williams averaged 11.4 points and 9.7 rebounds per game while shooting nearly 50% from the field. He led the Big 12 in double-doubles with 19 and helped guide TCU to a 24–15 record. He posted 18 points and eight rebounds in a quarterfinal upset win over Kansas in the Big 12 Tournament.

Professional Career

After going undrafted in the 2018 NBA Draft, Kenrich Williams joined the Denver Nuggets for NBA Summer League competition. On July 24, 2018, he signed with the New Orleans Pelicans, officially beginning his professional career. Williams made his NBA debut on October 17, 2018, contributing to a dominant win over the Houston Rockets. During his rookie season, he also spent time with the Westchester Knicks of the NBA G League, where he debuted on November 23.

He delivered a standout performance with a then-career-high 21 points, along with personal bests in field goals made (eight), three-pointers (five), assists (three), and minutes played (38) in a close loss to the Denver Nuggets.  Williams was traded to the Oklahoma City Thunder as part of a four-team deal. He quickly established himself as a valuable role player for the team. he signed a four-year, $27.2 million contract extension with the Thunder, solidifying his long-term future with the franchise.
