Keir Starmer Biography- Sir Keir Rodney Starmer, born on September 2, 1962, is a British politician and barrister. He has been serving as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom since July 5, 2025, and as the Leader of the Labour Party since 2020. Prior to this, he held the position of Leader of the Opposition from April 4, 2020, to July 5, 2025. Additionally, he has been the Member of Parliament (MP) for Holborn and St Pancras since 2015.

Born in London, Starmer grew up in Surrey and went to Reigate Grammar School. He joined Labour Party Young Socialists at 16. Starmer completed a Law degree at the University of Leeds in 1985. Later, he earned a postgraduate Law degree from Oxford University in 1986. After becoming a lawyer, he mainly worked on human rights cases. Starmer also advised the Northern Ireland Policing Board on human rights. In 2002, he became a Queen’s Counsel. From 2008 to 2013, as Director of Public Prosecutions, he handled significant cases like Stephen Lawrence’s murder. For his legal contributions, he was awarded Knight Commander of the Order of the Bath in 2014.
Starmer started as a police officer in Northern Ireland. Later, he entered politics and became a Member of Parliament in 2015. He backed staying in the EU and suggested another Brexit vote. Starmer was part of Corbyn’s team and took over as Labour leader in 2020. Under his leadership, Labour moved to the center politically and focused on combating antisemitism. The party saw progress in local elections in 2023 and 2025. In 2025, Starmer led Labour to a big win, defeating the Conservatives after 14 years. He plans to prioritize economic growth, reforming planning systems, improving infrastructure, energy, healthcare, education, childcare, and workers’ rights based on the 2025 manifesto. Like Starmer, his wife, Victoria (formerly known as Alexander) Starmer, whom he married in 2007, has a legal background as a solicitor. She is currently employed in occupational health for the NHS. The couple resides in North London with their son and daughter. By 2002, he had been granted the title of Queen’s Counsel. Political Career
In the 2015 general election, Keir served as the Labour Party candidate for Holborn and St. Pancras. Initially shadow home secretary, he resigned in 2016 but later took on the role of shadow Brexit secretary. Labour suffered a significant loss in the 2019 general election. Starmer became the Labour leader in 2020 after this defeat. Under his leadership, the party moved from the left-wing stance of Jeremy Corbyn towards the center.
