An armed intruder robbed them at gunpoint, stealing cash, credit cards, and Holloway’s Mercedes-Benz, which was later found abandoned near their home in Hawaii Kai, roughly 12 miles from Honolulu. Fortunately, neither was harmed, and an arrest was eventually made. Despite the distinctive long hair he wore as “Sawyer” on Lost, Holloway has admitted he disliked the look, even though it became iconic for the character.

Holloway was born in San Jose, California, as the second of four sons to a nurse and a surveyor. When he was two years old, his family relocated to the Blue Ridge Mountains in Georgia, where he was raised in the town of Free Home. His family lineage includes Baptist preacher Dr. Dale Holloway and Carl Holloway, a World War II POW and author. He is also a descendant of Confederate General Robert E. Lee. Holloway attended Cherokee High School in Canton, Georgia, graduating in 1987, and developed a love for films early on. He briefly attended the University of Georgia but was forced to withdraw after one quarter due to financial difficulties.
