Jeff Hardy is the son of Gilbert and Ruby Moore Hardy and the younger brother of Matt Hardy. His mother passed away from brain cancer in 1987, when Jeff was just nine years old. Hardy developed an interest in motocross at the age of 12, getting his first bike, a Yamaha YZ-80, and competing in his first race while in ninth grade.
