Club Career
Murphy was born in Wembley, London. Along with his twin brother Josh, he started playing football at the age of seven and both joined Norwich City’s youth team in 2006, at the age of 12. On 31 March 2011, it was announced that the brothers would join the club’s academy for the upcoming season. Jacob was part of the Norwich City youth squad that won the 2012–13 FA Youth Cup. He signed his first professional contract with Norwich City on 4 January 2013, and later in December 2013, he extended his stay with a three-year contract.
Murphy made his professional debut on 4 January 2014 in an FA Cup match against Fulham. He also made his first competitive appearance for Norwich City during the 2014–15 season, providing an assist for his brother Josh in a 3–1 victory over Crawley Town in the second round of the League Cup.
