Early Career
Savoretti was born in Westminster to an Italian father and a mother of Polish Jewish and German descent. He grew up in London before moving to Lugano, Switzerland, near the Italian border. His childhood involved traveling around Europe, and he attended the American School in Switzerland, where he developed what he describes as a “transatlantic mutt” accent. As a teenager, Savoretti was primarily focused on poetry, spending hours writing and dreaming. When his mother gifted him a guitar and encouraged him to set his words to music, he discovered that people were more engaged when he sang than when he simply recited poetry.
He started playing guitar at 16 and collaborated with Shelly Poole on two duets, “Anyday Now” and “Hope,” featured on her album Hard Time for the Dreamer, released in September 2005. At 18, he signed with De-angelis Productions, which later set up De-angelis Records. Producer Rick Barraclough worked on Savoretti’s first two albums, Between the Minds and Harder Than Easy. The label enlisted Nick Fleming’s radio promotions company, introducing Savoretti to Radio 2, where Between the Minds became album of the week.

Jack Savoretti made his debut by releasing his first single, “Without,” on October 9, 2006. The music video, filmed in Mallorca, was directed by Oscar-nominated filmmaker Bobby Garabedian. The single charted at number 90 on the UK Singles Chart and was B-Listed by BBC Radio 2. His follow-up single, “Dreamers,” was less successful, peaking at No. 123 in the UK, though it also received airplay on Radio 2. Savoretti caught the attention of Corinne Bailey Rae, who invited him to join her on her European tour. His debut album, Between the Minds, was released in March 2007 and received support from Radio 2, where it was named Album of the Week. It debuted at number 5 on the UK indie charts.
In February and March 2008, he embarked on a solo mini-tour at Caffè Nero locations across the UK. Following this tour, he re-released Between the Minds on March 31, 2008, featuring a bonus disc with unplugged versions of some tracks, three new songs, and a live cover of Johnny Cash’s “Ring of Fire.” Just a few days later, on April 4, 2008, he performed “Gypsy Love” on the show This Morning.
