Early Life
Skelton was born on July 19, 1983, in Carlisle, Cumbria, England, and grew up on a dairy farm in the village of Kirkby Thore. She attended the local primary school before moving on to Appleby Grammar School. She later graduated from the Cumbria Institute of the Arts with a BA in journalism. While in college, she worked as an extra on the shows Coronation Street and Cutting It. Skelton has mentioned that if she weren’t a broadcaster, she would have pursued a career in teaching. Her brother, Gavin, is a former professional footballer and has also worked as a player-manager.

Early Career
Helen Skelton began her professional journey in public relations but soon shifted her focus to journalism. She gained experience in the newsroom at CFM Radio and contributed to various programs at Border Television. In 2005, she became one of the youngest breakfast presenters on the BBC network when she joined BBC Radio Cumbria. Following this, she worked as a reporter and occasional presenter on the children’s news program Newsround and its weekend sports edition, Sportsround.
On 28 August 2008, Helen was announced as a presenter on Blue Peter, stepping in for Zöe Salmon and becoming the show’s 33rd presenter. She left the program in August 2013, with Radzi Chinyanganya taking her place. During her tenure on Blue Peter, she also worked on various correspondent roles, including reporting from events like the Wimbledon Championships.
