His father, José Luis Alonso, worked as a mechanic in a mine shaft explosives factory and was also an amateur karting enthusiast. His mother, Ana Díaz, was employed at a department store. He has an older sister, Lorena, who later became a doctor.
From 1985 to 1995, Alonso attended the Holy Guardian Angel Primary School (Santo Ángel de la Guarda) in Oviedo, following Spain’s Basic Education System (Educación General Básica). He later enrolled at the Instituto Leopoldo Alas Clarín de San Lázaro, but his growing commitment to motorsport led him to leave school during his Curso de Orientación Universitaria (University Orientation Course) in 2000. Though he often skipped classes against his mother’s wishes, he maintained good academic performance by borrowing notes from classmates and was considered a well-behaved student. He was eventually granted permission to study remotely.
