Early life and education
After her parents split, Owens, who was born in White Plains, New York, was raised by her grandparents along with her siblings starting when she was 11 or 12. Out of four children, she is the third. She added that North Carolina was the birthplace of her paternal grandpa, Robert Owens, a Black American. Through her grandmother, who is originally from Saint Thomas, the Virgin Islands, Owens also has Caribbean American ancestry. She is Stamford High School alumna. A group of white male students, among them the son of future Democratic governor and mayor Dannel Malloy, left Owens three racist voicemails totaling two minutes in 2007 when Owens was a 17-year-old senior in Stamford, Connecticut’s high school. Early career
When Owens founded Degree180 in 2015, it was a marketing business that provided planning, production, and consulting services as well as a blog featuring commentary from Owens and other experts on a range of subjects. “The good news is, they will eventually die off (peacefully in their sleep, we hope), and then we can get right on with the OBVIOUS social change that needs to happen, IMMEDIATELY,” Owens wrote in a 2015 column for the website, criticizing conservative Republicans for their “bat-shit-crazy antics.”A sarcastic essay about the size of Donald Trump’s penis appeared on the blog in 2016. The Daily Dot reported that “People from all sides of the anti-harassment debate were quick to criticize the database, calling it a public shaming list that would encourage doxing and retaliatory harassment.” The website was denounced by conservatives and progressives alike.

At the 2018 launch party for the conservative student group Turning Point UK, Owens met her husband, George Farmer, a British national. At the time, George Farmer, the son of Lord Farmer, served as Turning Point UK’s chairman. Their conservative beliefs brought them together, and after a few weeks of getting to know one another, the two began dating before George proposed to her. The couple tied the knot at the Trump Winery in Charlottesville, Virginia, in August of the same year after being engaged in 2019.
