Career
In 1980, Tonioli performed with the group Duke and the Aces in the UK competition to select an entry for the Eurovision Song Contest, though they did not win. Tonioli’s career has been marked by his work as a choreographer for music videos, stage performances, and tours for major artists such as Tina Turner, Sting, Elton John, the Rolling Stones, Freddie Mercury, Sinitta, Boy George, Dead or Alive, Bananarama, and Duran Duran. Notably, he danced in the music video for Elton John’s “I’m Still Standing” (1983).
Additionally, he choreographed the music video for Arcadia’s “Election Day,” a project featured in a 1980s documentary titled The Making of Election Day. He also worked as Minnie Driver’s choreographer for the film Ella Enchanted (2004). In November 2016, Tonioli curated an album called An Italian Romance, released by Decca Records, which featured a selection of Italian songs by various artists. Two years later, in November 2018, he hosted a BBC Radio 2 series called Bruno Tonioli at the Opera.
