Career
McPartlin’s television debut was on the children’s program Why Don’t You?, but his breakthrough came when he played PJ in Byker Grove, where he met Declan Donnelly, who played Duncan. Their chemistry led to a strong friendship and professional partnership, and together they continued as PJ & Duncan AKA, releasing hit songs like “Tonight I’m Free” from the show.

McPartlin married make-up artist Lisa Armstrong on 22 July 2006, in a ceremony at Cliveden House, Buckinghamshire. The couple divorced in January 2018 after 11 years of marriage. Politically, McPartlin was a Labour supporter until the 2010 election, when he voted for the Conservative Party. he expressed his difficulty in justifying support for either party in the future. McPartlin underwent knee surgery that resulted in complications, and he was prescribed painkillers, including codeine and the opioid OxyContin. Over the next two years, he developed an addiction to these medications and alcohol, at times using them before television appearances. McPartlin sought rehabilitation for his addiction and was released after two months. However, in March 2018, he was involved in a road traffic accident in London and arrested for suspected drunk driving.
