Trisha Yearwood Early Life

Yearwood was born in Monticello, Georgia, to schoolteacher Gwendolyn Yearwood and local banker Jack Howard Yearwood. Her ancestors trace their roots to England during the colonial era. From a young age, she had a deep passion for music, participating in various local events such as talent shows, church performances, and musicals. After graduating from high school, Yearwood attended Young Harris College for two years, earning an associate degree in business. She then spent one semester at the University of Georgia before dropping out.

In 1985, Yearwood moved to Nashville, Tennessee, and enrolled at Belmont College to study music business. She secured an internship with MTM Records and later worked full-time with the label. While working there, she recorded several demo tapes and provided background vocals for up-and-coming artists, including Garth Brooks. The two developed a friendship, and Brooks promised to help her secure a recording contract if his career took off. As his career progressed, Brooks introduced Yearwood to producer Allen Reynolds, who, along with Garth Fundis, helped her record a demo. In 1990, Yearwood contributed background vocals to Brooks’ album No Fences and performed live at a showcase, catching the attention of MCA Records producer Tony Brown, who signed her to a contract. She later served as the opening act on Brooks’ nationwide tour in 1991.
