Career Details
Kashyap began her career with Daewoo Motors as a counselor, but she left the position shortly after a year. After that, she started working as a legal consultant for an NGO. Early in the new millennium, Kashyap chose to pursue a journalism diploma from Jamia Millia Islamia. After graduating, she started working for Doordarshan, where she was given occasional reporting responsibilities in addition to working at the news desk of the investigative show Aankhon Dekhi. She transferred to Zee News within a year. Despite her constant desire to be an anchor, the channel decided that she lacked the grace of her speech and used her for producing jobs instead. She passed the auditions in her later years at Zee and was occasionally used as an anchor for special features.
She began working for News 24 in 2007, the year she was given her first mainstream assignment as an anchor, moderating an evening debate program. She moved to Star News after leaving the project in early 2012, but it closed down a few months later. Thus, in late 2012, Kashyap became one of numerous journalists to follow her immediate former supervisor at News24, Supriya Prasad, from News 24 to Aaj Tak. As a vocal opponent of affirmative action and reservations for underprivileged classes in India, Kashyap is well-known. During a media panel discussion, she once compared the system to “termites,” saying that it did not provide social mobility or economic prosperity for the targeted population. She talks about growing up in a Brahmin household.
Reception
Nikita Saxena’s long-form article on The Caravan has been extremely critical of Kashyap’s journalism, pointing out the forceful dissemination of Hindutva-centered ideology and the skewed reporting that favors the Bharatiya Janata Party in a range of circumstances. She is a news anchor who is friendly to the establishment, according to Scroll.in. In the lead-up to the 2019 National Elections, Kashyap was among the select few journalists who had permission to speak with Narendra Modi. According to Saxena, Kashyap declined to ask him any difficult questions. In her coverage of the 2019 Supreme Court hearings over the Ayodhya title dispute, Kashyap took a strongly Hindutva stance, engaging in a number of debates and special shows covering a wide range of topics, including why the case was routinely postponed (around October 18).
Personal life
She is wed to Mangesh Kashyap, a 1995 Delhi, Andaman and Nicobar Islands Police Service cadre officer. At Delhi University, Anjana had the opportunity to meet Mangesh. In 2016, Mangesh assumed the role of Chief Vigilance Officer at South Delhi Municipal Corporation, having previously served as the Additional Deputy Commissioner of the Delhi Police. Controversies
• Anjana Om Kashyap landed into controversy for passing illogical comment over the descendants of Rani Padmavati. It all happened during a heated conversation with Rohit Sardana over Padmavati where she made the statement- “the present day female descendants of Rani Padmavati themselves speak in English, have modern lifestyles, so they hardly have any moral right to give suggestions on the right portrayal of Rani Padmavati in the film.” Her remarks were later criticised on social media.
• Aaj Tak had to face the worst situation when their anchor Ashok Singhal asked a sexiest question to Smriti Irani during her visit at the Delhi University. While Smriti was addressing the students, the anchor asked her the reason for being appointed as the HRD Minister by Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, despite being so young and having issues over her degree. The question raged the HRD Minister and there was a protest against it by the audience. Anjana Om Kashyap was the co-anchor of the show and was severely criticised for being a mute spectator.
• When Kashyap’s husband, Mangesh Kashyap, was appointed as the CVO of the South Delhi Municipal Corporation, it was speculated that he has achieved the position not because of his seniority but because of her wife.
