Alvarez and Mariya Koroleva participated in the women’s duet competition at the 2016 Summer Olympics, where they placed ninth. She competes for the USA National Synchronized Swimming Team. She participated in the 2014 Junior World Championships as well as the 2015 World Championships in Kazan. Alvarez used to coach swimming intramurals in Western New York. She led the Walnut Creek Aquanuts to the 2019 Junior Olympics in Buffalo, New York, in her capacity as coach.
