Alice Weidel Biography Alice Elisabeth Weidel born February 6, 1979 is a German politician who has served as co-chairwoman of the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) party, alongside Tino Chrupalla, since June 2022. She is seen as part of the more moderate conservative Alternative Mitte faction within the AfD. Since October 2017, Weidel has been the leader of the AfD parliamentary group in the Bundestag. She became a member of the Bundestag (MdB) following the 2017 federal election, where she ran as the AfD’s lead candidate alongside Alexander Gauland. She also served as the lead candidate for the party in the 2021 federal election, alongside Tino Chrupalla. From February 2020 to July 2022, Weidel was the chairwoman of the AfD’s state association in Baden-Württemberg.

Early Life and Career
Weidel was born in Gütersloh and raised in Versmold, where she graduated from a Christliches Jugenddorfwerk Deutschlands (CJD) Gymnasium in 1998. She studied economics and business administration at the University of Bayreuth, graduating in 2004 as one of the top students of her class. After obtaining her undergraduate degree, Weidel worked as an analyst at Goldman Sachs Asset Management in Frankfurt from July 2005 to June 2006. In the late 2000s, she worked at the Bank of China and spent six years living in China, where she learned Mandarin. She later wrote a doctoral thesis on the future of the Chinese pension system, supervised by health economist Peter Oberender at the Faculty of Law and Economics in Bayreuth. In 2011, she earned a doctorate in international development, supported by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation.

Alice Weidel is in a lesbian relationship with Sarah Bossard, a film producer from Sri Lanka who lives in Einsiedeln, Switzerland. Weidel divides her time between Berlin and Einsiedeln, although she stated in 2017 that she mainly resides in Berlin. The couple is in a civil union and has two adopted children.
