Adrian Martin Newey OBE, born on December 26, 1958, is a prominent British Formula One engineer who serves as the chief technical officer of the Red Bull Racing F1 team. Early life and career
He was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, Warwickshire, England, on 26 December 1958, the son of Richard and Edwina Newey. His father worked as a veterinarian, and his mother served as an ambulance driver during the Second World War. He attended Repton public school where he was classmates with motoring journalist and writer Jeremy Clarkson. Newey left Repton at 16 following an incident at a Greenslade concert held at the school’s 19th-century Pears School Building, organized by the sixth formers, during which he raised the sound levels on the band’s mixer, causing damage to the building’s stained glass windows. Newey graduated with a first class honours degree in Aeronautics and Astronautics from the University of Southampton in 1980. He then started his career in motorsport with the Fittipaldi Formula One team under Harvey Postlethwaite. Subsequently, in 1981, he joined the March team as a race engineer for Johnny Cecotto in European Formula 2 before transitioning to designing racing cars. Newey’s design, the March 85C, achieved success in the 1985 CART championship with Al Unser and the 1985 Indianapolis 500 with Danny Sullivan.
