She first rose to fame on YouTube before advancing to Hollywood Week on the ninth season of American Idol in 2010. Kelly released her debut EP, Handmade Songs in 2012, and in 2013, she signed with Capitol Records, releasing her first major-label EP, Foreword, which charted in the top 20 on the US Billboard 200.
Her debut studio album, Unbreakable Smile (2015), peaked at number two and featured hit singles like “Nobody Love,” “Should’ve Been Us,” and “Hollow,” marking her first appearances on the Billboard Hot 100. Kelly’s early career began with appearances on talent shows. She competed on Star Search but lost to Tiffany Evans, who won the Junior Champion title.
