The biographical film in Hindi depicts the life of Srikanth Bolla, an Indian entrepreneur known for establishing Bollant Industries in 2012. This pioneering company offers jobs to unskilled and differently-abled individuals, focusing on producing eco-friendly goods. Born blind in 1992 in Seetharamapuram village, Machilipatnam, in the former undivided Andhra Pradesh, India, Srikanth’s challenges and determination are portrayed in the movie. The film captures his struggles since childhood, emphasizing his quote ‘mai bhaag nahi sakta, sirf lad sakta hun’ (‘I can’t run away, I can only fight’). It showcases Srikanth’s remarkable journey, from fighting to study science despite scoring 98% to becoming the first visually impaired international student at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology after being rejected by the Indian Institute of Technology.

Development

The movie was first named SRI but was later changed to Srikanth. Director Tushar wanted to create a film about Srikanth Bolla initially, but couldn’t proceed as Srikanth Bolla was too occupied to meet him. Tushar then contacted Srikanth through his associate Ravi Mantha. Ravi Mantha, portrayed by Sharad Kelkar in the film and serving as the narrator, played a key role in securing the rights for Tushar to make the movie about Srikanth Bolla. Initially, the rights were with another Bollywood director, Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra, who later willingly transferred them to Tushar as he was not prepared to work on the film at that point.

Marketing

The official trailer was unveiled on April 10, 2024. Rao made appearances at Swarnim University and a cultural event organized by the Blind People’s Association, which focuses on empowering the visually impaired. Additionally, he honored approximately 12 to 15 visually impaired entrepreneurs from Gujarat. A promotional gathering took place at The Victoria Memorial School for the Blind in Mumbai, with Srikanth Bolla in attendance. The song “Papa Kehte Hain” was introduced at an event held at St. Andrew’s College in Mumbai, attended by actor Aamir Khan and singer Udit Narayan.
