Sandeep Warrier, an Indian cricketer, represents the Indian National cricket team as a right-arm medium-fast bowler and right-handed batsman. He competes for the Tamil Nadu team in domestic cricket, having previously played for Kerala. Warrier is currently part of the Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League, having played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore and Kolkata Knight Riders earlier. He has been participating in the IPL since 2013.

Sandeep Warrier, born on 4 April 1991 in Thrissur, Kerala, India, to a middle-class family, grew up in Mumbai before returning to his birthplace. With a strong passion for sports from a young age, Sandeep excelled in cricket, playing numerous matches for his school team. He later focused on honing his bowling skills at the Cricket Academy. Sandeep made his debut in First Class cricket for Kerala on 24 November 2012 against the Goa Team in the 2011-12 Ranji Trophy. Similarly, he made his List “A” debut for Kerala on 14 February 2014 against Hyderabad in the 2013-14 Vijay Hazari Trophy. His T20 debut for Kerala was on 17 March 2014 against Hyderabad in the 2013-14 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy.
Recognized for his strong performance in domestic cricket, he caught the attention of IPL selectors and earned an opportunity to participate in the league. Sandeep Warrier was first selected by the Royal Challengers Bangalore from 2013 to 2015, then went on to be acquired by the Kolkata Knight Riders from 2019 to 2021. His IPL debut for Kolkata Knight Riders took place on 28 April 2019 against Mumbai Indians, and he later represented the Indian national team in an international match. Warrier marked his T20 international debut for India against Sri Lanka on 29 July 2021. In the 2023 IPL Auction, the Mumbai Indians secured Sandeep Warrier for 20 lakhs INR for the upcoming 2023 Indian Premier League season.
Sandeep married his long-time girlfriend Aarathy Kasturi Raj, an international skater in 2019. Aarathy won a bronze medal in the women’s 3000m relay event at the 2022 Asian Games.

Domestic career
Sandeep Warrier debuted in first-class cricket for Kerala against Goa on 24 November 2012. He was part of the group of five players suspended for three matches during the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy due to dissent against Kerala’s captain, Sachin Baby. Warrier was the top wicket-taker for Kerala in the 2018–19 Vijay Hazare Trophy, claiming twelve wickets in six games. Similarly, he led Kerala’s wicket-taking charts in the group stage of the 2018–19 Ranji Trophy, securing 44 dismissals in ten matches. Warrier achieved a hat-trick in the 2019 Syed Mushtaq Ali T20 Trophy season. In August 2019, he was selected for the India Red team’s squad for the 2019–20 Duleep Trophy. Furthermore, he was included in India A’s team for the 2019–20 Deodhar Trophy in October 2019. Finally, Warrier transferred from Kerala to Tamil Nadu in 2021.
International career
He was selected as one of the five net bowlers for India’s Test squad against England in January 2021. Additionally, he was chosen as one of the five net bowlers for India’s tour of Sri Lanka in June 2021. Due to a COVID-19 case in the team, Warrier was included in India’s main squad for the last two T20I matches of the tour. His T20I debut for India against Sri Lanka took place on 29 July 2021.
Personal life
Sandeep was born in Thrissur to Sankarankutty and Lakshmi. He has a sister named Sandhya. Sandeep grew up and attended school in Mumbai before relocating to Kerala. He dropped out of engineering studies. In 2019, Sandeep married his longtime girlfriend Aarathy Kasturi Raj, who is an international skater. Aarathy achieved a bronze medal in the women’s 3000m relay event at the 2022 Asian Games. Sandeep and his KKR teammate Varun Chakravarthy tested positive for COVID-19 on 3 May 2021, resulting in the postponement of the IPL match between Kolkata Knight Riders and Royal Challengers Bangalore scheduled for that day.
