Early Career
Sandeep initially began his cricketing journey as a batsman while at school in Patiala, but was later encouraged by his coach to take up seam bowling. His big breakthrough came during the 2012 Under-19 World Cup final against hosts Australia, where he took 4 wickets in a ten-over spell that included two maidens and helped restrict Australia to 225/8. India went on to win the match by six wickets. His wickets included future Australian internationals Cameron Bancroft and Ashton Turner.
By the age of 21, Sharma had already made a name for himself as a skilled swing bowler. His talent was recognized by cricketing greats, including Adam Gilchrist, who praised his ability to move the ball both ways.
