Her remarkable career has earned her a place among the exclusive group of EGOT winners (those who have won an Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony Award). In 2022, when West Side Story was rebooted, Moreno, now an icon in the industry, reflected on her early years in Hollywood and the pivotal role that film played in shaping her career.
On her very first day in Hollywood, a 16-year-old Rita Moreno entered the MGM lot with a mix of nervousness and excitement. She had been discovered by a talent scout at a Spanish dance recital, which led to a meeting with the studio’s legendary boss, Louis B. Mayer.
