About Richard Gleeson
Richard James Gleeson was born in Blackpool, Lancashire, England on 2 December 1987. A right-arm fast-medium bowler, Gleeson is an English professional cricketer. His first-class debut for Northamptonshire was against the Australians on 15 August 2015. Gleeson also made his List A debut in the Royal London One-Day Cup against Lancashire on 8 June 2016. With 143 wickets at an average of 21.34 in 34 first-class games, Gleeson has achieved taking 5 wickets 10 times in his career.
Career
His first appearance for Northamptonshire was against the Australians on 15 August 2015 in a first-class match, followed by his List A debut against Lancashire on 8 June 2016 in the Royal London One-Day Cup. Initially, Gleeson played for Northants sporadically while working full-time as a coach for schools and cricket clubs under the Lancashire Cricket Board. However, in July 2016, he secured a three-year contract with Northants. Gleeson also joined the Rangpur Riders for Twenty20 cricket in the 2016 Bangladesh Premier League. Towards the end of the 2018 season, he transferred from Northamptonshire to Lancashire.
Gleeson encouraged perseverance and pursuit of dreams upon being selected for England’s training squad in May 2020. He later joined the 24-man squad training for the ODI series against Ireland and became one of the reserve players. Gleeson achieved his first five-wicket haul in T20 cricket in the 2022 T20 Blast and made his T20I debut against India in July 2022, claiming the wickets of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rishabh Pant.
