Ravi Rampaul Biography: Ravindranath Rampaul born October 15, 1984 is a Trinidadian cricketer known for his pace bowling. He has represented the West Indies, Trinidad and Tobago, and played for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL. Rampaul has also played for several teams in the Caribbean Premier League (CPL), including the Barbados Tridents and Trinbago Knight Riders, as well as English County sides Surrey and Derbyshire. He was an important member of the West Indies team that won the 2012 T20 World Cup.

Rampaul bounced back during the 2002-03 Carib Beer Cup, picking up 18 wickets and becoming the second-highest wicket-taker for his team. He returned for the 2003-04 U19 World Cup, where he had a much better performance, taking 9 wickets at an average of 21.22.

Youth Cricket
Rampaul’s cricket journey began with youth cricket, where he played for both Trinidad and Tobago and the West Indies. He competed in the 2000 World Under-15 Challenge in England and the 2002 Under-19 World Cup. Rampaul made a significant impact by breaking the regional youth tournament record for wickets, taking 45 wickets in five matches during the 2002 season. The following year, he took 27 wickets, contributing to Trinidad and Tobago’s first youth title since 1987. By then, Rampaul had already made his first-class debut, playing three Busta Cup matches for Trinidad and Tobago in the 2001–02 season, where he claimed six wickets.
International Career
In the 2002–03 season, Rampaul played six more matches and took 18 wickets, with only Marlon Black taking more wickets for Trinidad and Tobago that season. This performance earned him a spot in the West Indies Under-19 squad for the 2003–04 Red Stripe Bowl one-day tournament. He emerged as the team’s leading wicket-taker with eight wickets, double the tally of the next best bowler. After this tournament, Rampaul was select for the West Indies’ tour of Zimbabwe in October and November.
In his debut match, Rampaul went wicketless, bowling 30 overs and delivering 13 no-balls. He was not select for either of the two Test matches but did play in four of the five ODIs after impressing in a warm-up match against Zimbabwe A, where he took two wickets, including that of opener Dion Ebrahim. Despite his efforts, Rampaul did not take a wicket in the ODI series, which West Indies won 3–2, and he was the most expensive West Indian bowler among those who bowled more than four overs per game.
Debut
Rampaul made his One-Day International (ODI) debut against Zimbabwe in Bulawayo later in 2003. In his first match, he bowled 10 overs and took no wickets, finishing with figures of 0/38. Despite this, he was include in the series against South Africa and England. However, after taking only 11 wickets in his first 17 ODIs, he was dropped. Rampaul made his T20I debut against England at The Oval in 2007. He took 0/26 in his first match and was droppe after taking just five wickets in his first five appearances. His Test debut came in 2009 against Australia at Brisbane, but it was not a memorable start as he only took one wicket in his debut match and three wickets in his next four games, leading to his exclusion from the side.
Rise to Glory
One of Rampaul’s standout performances came in the 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup against India in Chennai, where he took 5/51, playing a key role in restricting India to a modest total from a strong position. His most significant contribution came in the 2012 ICC World T20 semi-final against Australia in Colombo. With West Indies posting 205/4, Rampaul delivered a match-winning performance with the ball, taking 3/16 in 3.4 overs to help his team reach the final.
Low Points
Rampaul’s career has been marred by recurring injuries, which have affect his consistency. While he is skill with the bouncer and Yorker, his lack of express pace makes it difficult for him to trouble batsmen, especially in the absence of consistent swing.
Club Career
Rampaul play for the Royal Challengers Bangalore in the 2013 and 2014 editions of the Indian Premier League. He claim 13 wickets in the 2013 season but had limited opportunities in 2014. He continues to represent the Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League.
Records
Rampaul holds the record for the highest score by a number 10 batsman in ODI cricket. He achieved this feat with an unbeaten 86 against India in Visakhapatnam in 2011.
