Pete Nance’s brief return to the Cleveland Cavaliers organization has come to an end. After being waived by the Philadelphia 76ers and rejoining the Cleveland Charge, the NBA G League affiliate of the Cavaliers, Nance is now on the move again. According to a report from ESPN on Thursday night, the Milwaukee Bucks are set to sign Nance to a two-way contract. Nance, a Revere High School graduate, hails from a basketball family. He is the son of Cavaliers legend Larry Nance Sr. and the younger brother of Atlanta Hawks forward Larry Nance Jr., both of whom have ties to the Cavaliers. After spending four seasons at Northwestern and one at North Carolina, Pete Nance entered the NBA as an undrafted free agent with the Cavs in June 2023.

High School Career

Nance played at Revere High School, where he stood 6 feet 10 inches (2.08 meters) tall and weighed 205 pounds (93 kg) during his senior season. He led his team to its first district championship and was named the Ohio Division II Player of the Year. On June 29, 2017, he committed to play for the Northwestern Wildcats starting in the 2018–19 season, turning down offers from the University of Michigan and Ohio State University. Nance was a four-star recruit, ranked as the highest in Northwestern’s history. Scout.com ranked him 83rd overall and 19th among power forwards in the nation, while 247Sports placed him 64th overall.

College Career

Nance made his debut in an exhibition game against McKendree, posting 12 points, 8 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 4 steals in 19 minutes off the bench. He scored three points and recorded one assist in his first regular-season game, a win over New Orleans. Nance earned his first collegiate start in a loss to Michigan. In his sophomore season, he averaged 8.5 points and 6.0 rebounds per game. As a junior, he improved, averaging 11.1 points, 6.8 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. However, he missed a game against Michigan State in January 2022 due to an ankle injury. In his senior year, Nance posted 14.6 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. After testing the waters in the 2022 NBA Draft, he decided to return to college and transferred to North Carolina for his final season.

Pete Nance is the son of Larry Nance and the younger brother of Larry Nance Jr., both of whom have had careers in the National Basketball Association. He also has an older sister named Casey.

Professional Career

After going undrafted in the 2023 NBA Draft, Pete Nance joined the Cleveland Cavaliers for the 2023 NBA Summer League. On September 13, 2023, he signed with the Cavaliers, but was waived on October 21. A week later, Nance signed with the Cleveland Charge, the NBA G League affiliate of the Cavaliers. On January 18, 2024, Nance earned a 10-day contract with the Cleveland Cavaliers, becoming the third member of the Nance family to play for the team, following his father Larry Nance Sr. and brother Larry Nance Jr. However, after just 12 days, Nance returned to the Cleveland Charge on January 30.

On December 3, 2024, Nance signed a two-way contract with the Philadelphia 76ers. However, he was waived on January 7, 2025, and three days later, he returned to the Cleveland Charge. On January 14, 2025, Nance signed another two-way contract with the 76ers. He was waive on February 6, 2025, as part of the Jared Butler trade.
