Matthew William Short, born on 8 November 1995, is an Australian cricketer who plays for Victoria at the state level and Adelaide Strikers in the Big Bash League. He has previously represented Melbourne Renegades. Short’s one day debut was on 20 July 2014 for Australia National Performance Squad against South Africa A. He made his first-class debut for Cricket Australia XI on 29 October 2015 against New Zealanders during New Zealand’s tour to Australia, where he scored his first first-class century in a match against England at Townsville in November 2017.

In 2013-2014, Melbourne Renegades offered him a rookie contract, and he played two games for them the following season. Although he was not selected for BBL 05, he did feature in a single game during BBL 06 against Sydney Sixers. After some uneventful seasons with the Renegades, Short transferred to the Adelaide Strikers in the 2018/19 season. It was not until the 2021/22 season when Short moved to the top of the batting order that his true potential was revealed. Ending the season as the third-highest run-scorer and hitting the second-highest number of sixes, Short’s standout performance included scoring his first BBL century in a record chase of 230 against the Hobart Hurricanes. This exceptional performance led to Short being recognized as the Player of the Tournament. In 2023/24, Short was appointed as the captain of the Adelaide Strikers, where his form continued to excel. Recognizing Short’s aggressive batting style, spin bowling skills, and recent good form, he was given the opportunity to make his T20I debut in a brief series against South Africa, followed by his ODI debut in an upcoming series against India.
