Early life
Lily Jane Collins was born on March 18, 1989, to English musician Phil Collins and his second wife, Jill Tavelman, an American who previously served as president of the Beverly Hills Women’s Club. Her maternal grandfather was a Canadian Jewish immigrant who for many years maintained a men’s clothes company in Beverly Hills, California. Collins is a half-sister to musician Simon Collins and actress Joely Collins from her father’s first marriage, and she has two younger half-brothers from his third marriage. Her uncle was Clive Collins, a cartoonist.
Collins went to Los Angeles with her mother after her parents divorced in 1996, when she was six years old. She graduated from Harvard-Westlake School and later studied broadcast journalism at the University of Southern California. In 2007, she made her debut at Paris’ Bal des débutantes. She had an eating condition as a teenager, which she later recounted in her autobiography, Unfiltered: No Shame, No Regrets, Just Me.
