While Saw has since led to nine more films, Wan revealed that one particular contraption from the original film stands out as his favorite: the infamous “jaw trap.” This device, also known as the Reverse Bear Trap, was designed by the villainous John Kramer, aka Jigsaw (played by Tobin Bell), and first used on the character Amanda Young (Shawnee Smith). The trap became one of the franchise’s most recognizable symbols.
In the original Saw, Amanda wakes up with the trap fastened to her jaw, with mere seconds to retrieve a key from the body of a nearby man in order to escape before the trap violently rips her head apart.
