Early Life
Jack Whitehall was born in Portland Hospital, London, to actress Hilary Amanda Jane Whitehall (stage name Hilary Gish) and television producer Michael John Whitehall. Michael frequently appears in Jack’s projects, and Jack has humorously described him as a staunch Conservative. He once recounted how, in the first election he could vote in, his father impersonated him via postal vote to ensure he voted for the Conservative Party. Jack also has a younger sister and brother.
He is a descendant of Welsh lawyer Thomas Jones Phillips, an opponent of the Newport Rising of 1839. Jack has two godfathers: actors Nigel Havers and Richard Griffiths. He attended Tower House School in East Sheen, London, where he was classmates with actor Robert Pattinson, jokingly expressing his resentment towards Pattinson for landing the best roles in school plays. Jack auditioned for the title role in Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone but failed to impress the casting director due to not having read the book.
