Sharma was initially selected to join the Indian squad for the 2006-07 South Africa tour at the age of 18 but was later deselected after making travel preparations. Nicknamed “Lambu” during his Under-19 days due to his height and slender build, he made his mark by becoming the fifth youngest player to reach 100 Test wickets in 2011. Additionally, he became the fifth quickest Indian to achieve 100 ODI wickets against South Africa in 2013. Known for his pace, Sharma has bowled over 150 km/h in various international matches and IPL games, with his fastest delivery being 152.2 km/h to Ricky Ponting during the 2011 Boxing Day Test.
