Early life
Clauddine “Dee Dee” Blanchard (née Pitre), 24, and Rod Blanchard, 18, gave birth to Blanchard on July 27, 1991. Her mother first claimed that Gypsy-Rose had a variety of health problems from infancy. Her mother initially informed her that she had muscular dystrophy and needed to use a walker. She was involved in a minor motorbike accident with her grandfather when she was about seven or eight years old, and she got a minor knee abrasion as a result. After this, Dee Dee informed her that she required a wheelchair. Dee Dee and Gypsy-Rose moved to Aurora, Missouri, after their Louisiana home was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina. During their tenure there, Gypsy Rose was awarded by the Oley Foundation, which advocates for the rights.
As the 2007 Child of the Year. Gypsy knew she didn’t need the feeding tube and could walk all along, but she kept up the deception out of dread of her mother. Habitat for Humanity constructed them a tiny home with a wheelchair ramp and hot tub as part of a bigger project on Springfield’s north side, to the east, and they relocated. The story of a single mother with a severely deformed daughter forced to leave Katrina’s devastation drew a lot of local media attention, and the community frequently stepped in to support the woman who went by Clauddinnea Blancharde and was also known as Dee Dee.
