Early Life

Born on May 5, 1959, in Ridgewood, New Jersey, Williams was raised in a lively Catholic household with strong Irish roots. He is the son of Dorothy May (née Pampel) (1918–1992) and Gordon Lewis Williams (1917–2010), who served as executive vice president of the National Retail Merchants Association in New York. Brian is the youngest of four siblings. He spent nine years living in Elmira, New York, before moving to Middletown Township, New Jersey, during junior high school.

Williams graduated from Mater Dei High School, a Roman Catholic school located in the New Monmouth area of Middletown. During high school, he volunteered as a firefighter for three years with the Middletown Township Fire Department and served as the editorial editor of the school newspaper. A football injury left him with a crooked nose. His first job was working as a busboy at Perkins Restaurant & Bakery.
