Early life and background
The vocalist Vidya Rao and engineer Ahsan Hydari welcomed Aditi Rao Hydari into the world in Hyderabad. 2013 saw the death of Aditi’s father, a Sulaimani Bohra Muslim. Aditi’s mother, a practicing Buddhist, was born into a Telugu family into the family of a Mangalore-bred Chitrapur Saraswat Brahmin father. Hydari’s parents are both nobles from the former state of Hyderabad. Aditi’s father was the nephew of Muhammad Saleh Akbar Hydari, the former governor of Assam, and the grandson of Akbar Hydari, the former prime minister of the state of Hyderabad. Vidya Rao, Aditi’s mother, is a skilled classical vocalist in the Hindustani music genres of thumri and dadra.
Aditi’s maternal grandmother, her mother Shanta Rameshwar Rao, founded Vidyaranya High School in Hyderabad and served as chair of Orient Blackswan, a publishing business owned by her father, the Raja. She should not be confused with the novelist Shanta Rama Rao. Vidya is the stepdaughter of the former Raja of Wanaparthy, J. Rameshwar Rao. He was one of the four nobles with the highest position in the Nizam of Hyderabad’s court. Known as Wanaparthy, his ancestral Jagir, was one of the four major feudal estates under Hyderabad state, with its owners bearing the title of “Maharaja.” Aditi’s maternal first cousin is Indian film producer, screenwriter, and director Kiran Rao, the former spouse of actor Aamir Khan.
