Abdul Samad Farooq, born on 28 October 2001, is an Indian cricketer representing Jammu & Kashmir in domestic cricket and Sunrisers Hyderabad in the IPL. He bats right-handed and bowls right-arm leg-break. He is the third cricketer from Jammu & Kashmir to play in the IPL, making his debut against Delhi Capitals on 29 September 2020. Hailing from Kalakote, Abdul Samad is the son of Mohammed Farooq, who worked in the department of youth services and sports. Raised in Kalakote village, he admired Rohit Sharma and honed his batting skills emulating his idol through tennis matches with his brother and practicing in front of mirrors.

Farooq relocated from Kalakote to Sidhra in 2009 to provide better educational opportunities and a suitable cricket environment for his sons. This move led to Abdul Samad impressing Irfan Pathan and Jammu and Kashmir coach Milap Mewada during a trial in Jammu. At the age of 16, Samad’s ability to play against fast bowlers left Pathan impressed. The turning point in Samad’s career was when VVS Laxman, the mentor of Sunrisers Hyderabad, was looking for a dynamic middle-order batsman and Mewada recommended Samad for the role, paving the way for his entry into the Indian Premier League.
