Ronit Roy was born on October 11, 1965, in Nagpur, Maharashtra, into a Bengali family. He is the eldest son of Brotin Bose Roy, a businessman, and Dolly Roy. His younger brother, Rohit Roy, is also an actor in both television and film. Ronit spent most of his childhood in Ahmedabad, Gujarat, where he attended Ankur School for his primary education. After completing school, he pursued studies in hotel management.

Following his graduation, he relocated to Mumbai and lived with renowned filmmaker Subhash Ghai. Although Ronit aspired to enter the film industry, Ghai initially advised him against it due to its challenging nature. Controversies • Police Case Filed For Rash Driving
In 2011, he was arrested by the Mumbai Police for rash driving. He was driving his Mercedes car when he rammed into another car in which a family of four people were travelling. According to the local police, the incident happened at around 6:45 am on Linking Road near Sab TV lane. Ronit was with his brother in the car. The local police arrested Ronit under two sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) Section 279 for reckless driving on a public road and Section 338 for causing serious injuries to others by endangering their lives. Later, he was granted bail with as surety of Rs 12000 by the Bandra Metropolitan Magistrate Court.
