In college, Webber was a first-team All-American and a key leader of the University of Michigan’s 1991 freshman class, famously known as the Fab Five, which reached the NCAA Men’s Division I Basketball Championship games in both 1992 and 1993 as freshmen and sophomores. As a high school standout, Webber was named National High School Basketball Player of the Year and led Detroit Country Day to three Michigan State High School Basketball Championships. However, he never secured a national championship title in college or the NBA.

Webber attended Detroit Country Day School from 1987 to 1991, becoming the most heavily recruited Michigan high school basketball player since Magic Johnson. He led his team to three Michigan High School Athletic Association state championships. As a senior, Webber averaged 29.4 points and 13 rebounds per game. He was named Michigan’s Mr. Basketball and the National High School Player of the Year for 1990–1991. Additionally, he earned MVP honors at both the McDonald’s and Dapper Dan All-Star games.
