Prior to joining WWE, he gained recognition in Ring of Honor (ROH) under the ring name Punishment Martinez, where he won the ROH World Television Championship. Martínez also competed in Japan through ROH’s partnership with New Japan Pro-Wrestling (NJPW). He joined WWE in 2018, starting on the NXT developmental brand, where he went on to win the NXT North American Championship. In 2021, he made his move to WWE’s main roster and captured the WWE United States Championship. Martínez gained widespread popularity as a co-founding member of The Judgment Day from 2022 to 2024.

On April 25, 2022, Priest and Edge founded the group known as The Judgment Day. They later added Rhea Ripley, Finn Bálor, and Dominik Mysterio, the son of Rey Mysterio, to their ranks. Damian Priest is widely regarded as the leader of The Judgment Day. At Payback on December 2, 2023, Priest and Finn Bálor competed in a tag team championship match against the reigning champions, Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens. Early Life
Born in New York City to a Nuyorican family, Luis Martínez was raised in Dorado, Puerto Rico. It was there that he first discovered the World Wrestling Council (WWC) on television, which sparked his interest in professional wrestling. He trained in Gōjū-ryū karate under his martial artist father and went on to win two national championships in full-contact martial arts. After returning to New York at the age of 10, Martínez had to adapt to the cultural differences as Spanish remained his first language. During a difficult period, he became homeless, often sleeping on the streets while working as a bouncer to make ends meet.
