India welcomed 25 new billionaires this year according to the most recent report from Forbes, including Renuka Jagtiani, who holds the position of chairperson and chief executive officer at Landmark Group with a net worth of $4.8 billion.
Renuka Jagtiani serves as the chairperson and CEO of Landmark Group, a multinational consumer conglomerate headquartered in Dubai, established by her husband Micky Jagtiani, employing more than 5,000 staff members.
In 1993, Renuka Jagtiani became part of the Landmark Group and has since played a key role in shaping the company’s corporate strategy and venturing into new markets for over two decades. Her strategic guidance has propelled the Group to become the leading retailer of indigenous brands in the Middle East, Indian subcontinent, Southeast Asia, and Africa. Furthermore, Renuka Jagtiani was honored with the Outstanding Asian Business Woman of the Year award at the Asian Business Awards Middle East in January 2007. Jagtiani was awarded the title of Businesswoman of the Year at the Gulf Business Industry Awards in January 2012. Two years later, in January 2014, she was recognized as the Entrepreneur of the Year by the World Entrepreneurship Forum.
In January 2015, she was honored as the Strategic Leader of the Year at the Indian CEO Awards. She received the Captain of the Industry Award from the Stars of Business Award in January 2016. Additionally, she was honored with induction into the ‘Hall of Fame’ at the World Retail Congress in January 2017. Her three children, Aarti, Nisha, and Rahul, are currently serving as group directors at Landmark.
India has seen an addition of 25 new billionaires this year, bringing the total number of billionaires in the country to 200, up from 169 last year, as reported by the ‘Forbes World’s Billionaires List 2024: The Top 200’. The total wealth of these Indian billionaires amounts to $954 billion, marking a 41% increase from $675 billion in the previous year.
There are currently more billionaires than ever before, totaling 2,781 individuals, which is 141 more than last year and 26 more than the previous record set in 2021. Their collective wealth has reached $14.2 trillion, showing an increase of $2 trillion from 2023 and surpassing the previous record by $1.1 trillion, which was also set in 2021.
In the list of billionaires among Indians, Mukesh Ambani, the CMD of Reliance Industries Ltd (RIL), holds the highest position with a total net worth of $116 billion. Following him are Gautam Adani with $84 billion, Shiv Nadar with $36.9 billion, Savitri Jindal & Family with $33.5 billion, and Dilip Shanghvi with $26.7 billion. Globally, Mukesh Ambani ranks 9th, making him the sole Indian in the top-10 list.
