Early Life
Dunn attended Catholic High School in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, where he played quarterback, cornerback, and running back. In his sophomore year, he helped lead the school to its first-ever state 4A championship game. As a senior, he earned honorable mention as an All-America selection by USA Today. Tragically, on January 7, 1993—just two days after Dunn turned eighteen—his mother, Betty Smothers, a Baton Rouge police officer, was murdered while working an off-duty security job. Following this devastating event, Dunn took on the role of head of his family and raised his siblings. In a remarkable act of forgiveness, he later met with one of his mother’s killers, Kevan Brumfield.
