Born on November 20th in Bombay, Shilpa Shirodkar grew up in a moderate Marathi-speaking household. She was the elder of two sisters and was the first to venture into acting in Bollywood. Growing up in the upscale Khar locality of Bombay, Shilpa caught the attention of the film industry after being crowned Miss India in 1992. Her mother, Vanita, and her sister, Namrata Shirodkar (also crowned Miss India in 1993), were both influential figures in her life. Shilpa’s career in Bollywood included several prominent roles, though many of her performances were centered around more glamorous and superficial portrayals, such as getting drenched in the rain with her leading men. She was also the granddaughter of actress Meenakshi Shirodkar, who made history as the first actress to wear a swimsuit and portray Lord Krishna’s bath in the 1930s film Brahmachari.
