Early life and career

Cox was born Sarah Joanne Cox on December 13, 1974, but later deleted the letter ‘h’ from her first name. Her parents lived in Little Lever, near Bolton, Greater Manchester, where she grew up on her father’s farm. She was the fifth kid and the youngest. Her parents divorced when she was six or seven years old, and she relocated with her mother and a sister to another house in the same hamlet. Cox attended Smithills High School until she was 16, and then left Canon Slade School after four A-levels to pursue a career in modeling. She appeared in the music video for Orchestral Manoeuvres in the Dark’s 1993 hit “Everyday” as well as a contentious promotional poster for the.

Cox landed her first television position in 1996, presenting The Girlie Show on Channel 4. Cox confirmed her second pregnancy on BBC Radio 1’s weekend show on September 16, 2007. Cox’s last weekend program was on Sunday, February 17, 2008, before she left for six months of maternity leave. Her second kid, a son, arrived on March 10, 2008. She returned to Radio 1 in September of 2008. Cox took maternity leave for the third time, following her show on March 7, 2010.
