Reddy made her acting debut in the 2002 film Maine Dil Tujhko Diya. She is well known for her roles in the films Darna Mana Hai (2003), Musafir (2004), Jai Chiranjeeva (2005), Taxi Number 9211 (2006), Ashok (2006), Race (2008), Varanam Aayiram (2008), De Dana Dan (2009), Aakrosh (2010), Vettai (2012), and Tezz.

Sameera’s versatility as an actress and trained Indian classical dancer made her ideal for Bollywood roles. She debuted in a music video that got her attention and launched her film career as one of India’s top actresses, appearing in almost fifteen films in just four years. She has demonstrated her ability to play multiple characters in films such as the controversial blockbuster Musafir (2004), in which she plays a rape victim seeking vengeance, and Kalpurush (2005), an art house film in which Sameera plays a dual role as a middle-class housewife and a prostitute, which won India’s highest award, the National Award, and received critical acclaim at festivals. Sameera was credited with two independent films at the 2007 Toronto Film Festival. Migration (2008), a short film directed by the great Mira Nair in which she plays a housewife suffering from the condition.

Early life
Sameera Reddy was born on September 20, 1978 in Bombay (now Mumbai), Maharashtra, to a Telugu father and a Mangalorean Konkani mother. Her mother, Nakshatra, known as Niki by her daughters and the public, was a microbiologist who worked for an NGO. She has two siblings, Meghna Reddy, a former VJ and supermodel, and Sushama Reddy, a Bollywood actress and model, both older than her. She received her education at Bombay Scottish School in Mahim, Mumbai, and graduated from Sydenham College.
Reddy describes herself as a “tomboy” and “the ugly duckling in the family,” stating that “I was plump, had glasses, and my glam quotient was rather low until I was 19.

Career
In 1997, Reddy made his first appearance in ghazal artist Pankaj Udhas’ “Aur Aahista” music video. She was scheduled to make her acting debut in Saravana Subbiah’s Tamil film Citizen in the early 2000s, but she did not appear. She drew the attention of Bollywood and was cast in a major part in the 2002 Hindi film Maine Dil Tujhko Diya. She starred in the 2004 film Musafir alongside Anil Kapoor, Aditya Pancholi, and Koena Mitra. After making her debut in Varanam Aayiram, Reddy gained a large fan base in south India. Reddy is also the first Indian actress to have her own video game, Sameera: Street Fighter. In 2012, Reddy judged the Miss Sri Lanka Online event.
